During my time in high school, the seniors organized an annual concert for the whole school. While we had managed to raise enough money for a fantastic DJ, we found ourselves short on budget to hire a professional production company for the kind of lighting setup our DJ required.
Facing this challenge, I decided to teach myself lighting design as most of what the production company charges for is there time and knowledge. Using the funds we had collected, I purchased lighting equipment and programming tools. I took on the responsibility rigging lights and programming them.
The process involved self-learning lighting design principles, experimenting with various setups, and programming techniques. It was a learning curve, but it proved to be a rewarding experience. I could see how my efforts directly impacted the concert's atmosphere, enhancing the overall experience for the entire school.
After the concert, we decided to sell the lighting equipment to an event planner. The proceeds from the sale were used to contribute to our senior trip fund.
